Ahh... Nice and Cool Lake at Camp Lemhi

The Lodge

Closing Flag Ceremony

After the flag ceremony the staff performed several skits that were totally awesome.  We all had a great time.

Pirate Skit.  He lost is eye the first day with his hook.

Running red lights in an invisible car.  You can only get these at scout camp.

My favorite skit of the night by far was this one of a shoulder angel he did his best to stop this rebellious scouts from stealing as he crawled to the shoulder of each scout without touching the ground.

A look into the campsite we called home for the week.  "Pima" is a Native American word.

Hunters hot chocolate makes him strong.

Each morning we had flag ceremonies and troop yelling competitions.

Hunter making a walking stick

Braden discovered that bug spray is flammable.  Ahhhhh!

The scouts gathered at the trading post just prior to going on the honor trail.  The honor trail taught the boys about the scout law.  I think it was a very spiritual night for all of us.

"Flaming Ice Cubes" Flag on the way to flag ceremony.  We all lost our voices from screaming and yelling so much to try and win the spirit stick "Khan"

Studly Scouts.

The flag bowl

Friday we played the Lemhi Olympics.  These were a series of scout competitions.  The first was the six legged bear crawl.  Pretty Awesome.  Hunter and Austin competed.

Eventually the crawling stopped working so the boys reverted to a rolling tactic.  I don't this worked very well.

Nothing but smiles under all that dirt :).  They get an "A" for effort.

This race involved carrying an "injured" scout for two laps around the circle.  Calvin and Braden and Hunter had to show their strength.

Next up was the caber toss.  The scouts looked like this dude below :). Well not really.

After the Lemhi Olympics I competed in the Scout Master Belly Flop Contest.  The "Red-Bandit" was no match for "El-Gordo" However.

The Red Bandit prepares to charge!

El Gordo enters the area complete with rocky theme music and a championship belt.  Scout follow behind him with branches for fans.  This was hilarious.

Next the boys competed in the what is called Tendoys Test.  This was a 10 person relay race with scout challenges.  The fist leg was done by Braden and another scout canoeing across the lake and then having one swimmer swim back across the lake.  There he meets a runner who ties 5 knots and then runs to tag a team of three scouts who build a stretcher.  We combined with another troop and Calvin got to ride the stretcher.  Another runner had to run to the archery range and shoot the target.  Hunter shot the target with a .22 rifle and then Austin ran the final sprint back to the lodge.  It was great fun!

After Tendoys Test the scouts competed in the "The Battle of Lemhi Lake".  This is where lifeguards are stationed in the area and scouts are unleashed to try to splash each others boats until they fill with water.   They boys had a great time and performed pretty well.

Down they go!

That night at dinner we had our first burned potatoe flakes.  :(  That meant that the chocolate pudding was especially valuable.  After winning the rock paper scissiors contest.  Austin grins from ear to ear as he claims his prize of cleaning out the pudding bowl.  However his challenge was to do this with no utensils!

Hunter thought this was hilarious!

I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS THE SAME PUDDING BOWL.  THEY SHOULD MAKE THIS A MERIT BADGE OR SOMETHING.

There were several events up at camp.  Some of which were the Honor Trail, Order of the Arrow Tap Out Presentation, spirit stick competitions, and earning "Nots".   Each of the boys did amazing work and pushed themselves to places none of them thought they could do at the beginning of camp.  Hunter and I both swam the mile swim. Hunter also finished his Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, 1st Class, and 4 merit badges.  Braden achieved his 2nd Class, 99% of his 1st Class rank along with his wood carving merit badge.  Austin finished his 2nd Class, 1st Class, and earned his Environmental Science merit badge.    Calvin who was a brand new scout completed his Tenderfoot, 2nd Class, and his Canoeing merit badge.   These boys worked very hard all week and were a joy to work with.

We talked several nights about the values of the scout oath and the law.  We sang scout songs like the whooping crane song, and the wigalo song.  Saturday morning began with Hunter and Calvin taking canoe ride down the Snake River at 6am.  The morning was finished up by running out of camp in the rain and eating square ice cream cones at swan valley.

Thank you to all the parents who supported the troop and to those that came to camp on Friday.  I know each of the boys loved seeing their families and showing off their accomplishments.  See you next summer!!! Go TROOP 607!!
